About
JLLA is a Melbourne-based landscape design studio specialising in creating timeless outdoor spaces for both urban and rural residential projects. We craft gardens that are not only visually striking but also practical, reflecting the way you want to live and enjoy your home.
Every project begins with the unique qualities of its site—its architecture, orientation, surrounding landscape, and local vegetation. By drawing on these elements, we design spaces that feel integrated, natural, and enduring.
Our approach is creative and collaborative, working closely with clients to translate their vision into thoughtful design solutions. The result is highly liveable landscapes—gardens, courtyards, and pool surrounds—that invite people to spend time outdoors and connect with nature.

Principal Landscape Architect
James Lascelles
Ba. Design (Hons) Landscape Architecture, RMIT University
With more than 12 years of experience as a landscape architect, James Lascelles brings a passion for the outdoors and a deep knowledge of plants to every project. His career began in the nursery industry, where his interest in landscape architecture was sparked and his strong foundation in botany and plant selection was formed.
James has worked with leading practices across Australia and the UK on projects of all scales—from small courtyard gardens in Melbourne to expansive country estates and international commissions as far as Moscow. While based in London, he contributed to the design and construction of several gold medal–winning Chelsea Flower Show gardens, and during this time became a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (UK).
In recent years, James has specialised in swimming pool design, integrating pools, pool houses, and outdoor entertaining areas into cohesive architectural landscapes. His work balances creativity, technical precision, and a strong understanding of how people use and enjoy their gardens.
